Growing Grapes at Home – You Can Do It Too!
If you have ever dreamt of owning your own vineyard then we’ve got good news for you — it is very doable to grow grapes at home. Although it might not to be the same size as the vine yards you have seen elsewhere you will be able to grow an adequate harvest.
Grape growing requires two things to be a success and that is the perfect location and plenty of sunlight. You will need to learn the basics behind the growing of your grapes but once you have them there will be no stopping you.
You have to consider where you want the grapes to grow as they will need some form of structure to climb on. The supports will allow them to climb and grow and then you can train them to go where you want.
Your location is one of the most important things as you need it to be in a position that will get plenty of sunlight. If it is not possible to plant your vines in the sunlight then you must guide them to it along your structure. The grapes will naturally seek out the sunlight so with a little helping hand they will flourish.
The growing grapes will be very heavy over time so the structure they are on needs to be tough and strong. You should build and complete your vine structure before you begin planting and growing your grapes home style.
Another important factor for you to consider is the condition of your soil as the grapes will need a good soil to grow from. You will need poor drainage as growing grapes flourish if kept moist at all times. When you go to plant the vine you will need to dig a large hole to ensure that the roots can stretch and grow.
Ideally you should try to soak the vines roots for a couple of hours before you choose to plant them so they are well watered before going in the ground. You should plant your grape vines in the early spring which will allow them to find their own path and grow well.
You should not expect to have a harvest in the first year as your grapes are growing and the vines are becoming established. You can trim your vines which will encourage the grapes to grow faster and provide you with a harvest the following year.
Although you may never be able to harvest enough grapes to stock your wine cellar they do make a nice alternative to grow in your garden. With the right care in the beginning you can have healthy and fantastic grapes.
You will amaze people that you have your very own vineyard in your back garden and that you may even have enough to turn into a bottle of wine. Although this is the next stage in the process and learning to grow the grapes well should be mastered first.
Growing grapes home style is very rewarding and you will be amazed how you can grow the grapes so easily.
